Shocked that I enjoyed it so much. Staff was nice and fast. The place was clean. Great rolls for a reasonable price.

I've been coming here about 5 years. It has went downhill. There used to be nice see lady working the register. The last 2 times young woman and I saw her place the wasabi in my tray with her bare finger. This was after she rang me up a resister and also after holding small child in her lap. How many germs do you think were on her hands?? Tonight I was there and there were small bugs flying around. The garbage area where you place dirty plates was filthy, hence the bugs/ fruit flies. I'm surprised for park ridge it isn't much cleaner.

I was totally satisfied with Sushi Express. I went there looking to grab some sushi to take home, on a whim one night while shopping in town. The inside is clean, and totally suitable to eat-in. The man who took my order was very friendly. I didn't get that creative with my order... but have to say there's no lie in "Express" - it was ready super quick. I enjoyed the rolls. Price was reasonable too. Simple, simple. Good food, good service, quick and easy. I'll return.

Sushi Express is as good as it gets when you want to get your sushi fix without breaking the bank. There are a lot of options and combos to choose from with prices ranging $5-$15. Lunch combos include miso soup. The sushi is fresh and prepared per order, and the wait isn't baf. If you are unsure what you're choosing there are large pictures to help give you a better idea. I have yet to call in a pick-up order, but I assume they are just as prompt with having them ready. I will continue to come back here because the staff is friendly and the sushi is consistently delicious.

I love coming to this place. The staff is always extremely nice and the service is fast. They have a wide variety of sushi selections along with other things. This is some of the best sushi I have ever had, and I always love coming back here almost every week. It's never super crowded in here so you can always eat your meal without being disturbed. This is honestly one of my favorite places to eat. I love it.

Definitely a surprise! Although this place does not have the atmosphere for a romantic date, is definitely awesome for getting together for lunch or with friends. Being an "express" sushi spot, this place has a cafeteria-type feel. Food is served on trays. but A+ for having separate sides of spicy mayo and wakame salad!! sooo awesome. If only they had squid salad. It's really cheap! $8-$10 can really fill you up with a combo: which includes miso soup! Keep an eye out for their special rolls for the day too. 2 rolls, one california and a spicy crunch tuna= 16-18 pieces completely filled up my sister and i. AWESOME. But still, be wary. rice not the best. fish not the freshest. their rolls are generally either 1: small and super numerous or 2: ginormous. Inexpensively, they will fill you.

I love coming here. This is one of my favorite sushi spots. They have the awesome express combo Pretty Woman and Cheezy Dragon also Yummy Give it a try!!

Very friendly staff. The food is very good. I have ordered from them numerous times and have always had a really good experience with their sushi. Their food is very inexpensive. I always end up spending less than $15 when I go there to order Sushi, Appetizer, and drink. I go there regularly and would highly recommend them!

Not bad place to get a quick bit of sushi. It reminds me of a Subway except with sushi. The quality is fine, the service fast and the prices OK. Not the place for a nice date, but just fine for a quick bite. I'll come back if I'm downtown and have a schedule to keep.

It was 7:15 on a Sunday night, it was hot, and no one wanted to cook. Enter Sushi Express. A knock for this place is that it closes at 8pm every night. I guess I should expect that - it is the suburbs after all. We ordered 4 rolls. I don't remember all their names, but 2 were the spicy scallop and the CCR. Iwasn't expecting much form this "fast food" sort of sushi place, but I actually really liked all of the rolls except the CCR. Prices were reasonable and our order was ready quickly. I will be back.

Good enough for fast-food, inexpensive and quick sushi lunch. Specials come with miso soup.

Good fast sushi! It's not the BEST sushi but walk in "fast food" sushi?! It's good :)

I work in the area and this is one of my favorite sushi places. The sushi is fresh. If you come here during lunch hour the service is a little slower. But it makes sense since its a sushi place and they make their rolls. I usually order ahead by phone and then pick it up when I'm short on time. My favorite roll there is the GODZILLA roll! It's $10 and delicious! It consists of shrimp tempura, cream cheese, crab, avocado and crunch. Honestly, I love it so much! They also have a great lunch special for around $8 that includes a California roll & 3 pieces of Spicy Tuna & 3 pieces of Spicy Crab and Miso Soup. The Spicy Tuna does have some tang to it but overall good. When money is tight and I don't feel like paying more than $10 for lunch I order the lunch special. I think the owner is a lady that always works the register and answers the phones. She's always has a smile on her face which is always nice to see. The chefs behind the counter are super nice and always say "thank you" and "good bye" when I leave.

I love a good sushi place. I stumbled into this one because I was running short on time. As I was driving by I figured what the hell lets give it a try. Very happy I stopped in. They have some great specials that are very inexpensive for the amount and quality food they give you. Sure like some places they may add just a bit more rice than they should but it's ok. Since the fish was fresh and very tasty I didn't mind. Nothing is worse than bad sushi with triple the rice. I'm happy to say this was not the case. Very friendly staff and clean restaurant. So it's a must try. It won't break the bank. Cut back a bit on the rice and it's a 5 star ;-)

Great services and sushi for your money. Nice quaint atmosphere for a quick bite. The quality of the sushi is also great, which is obviously important when you are consuming raw fish. I am a regular customer :)

Read the reviews before I came because I love and crave sushi. In my experience here I find that its very cute and quaint but if you are looking for flavor in your sushi don't bother spending your money here. I'm disappointed that there is absolutely no taste to my sushi. It is however very cheap so, I guess that's what I get for not paying for good quality. I ordered the spicy combo and I have to say...its not at all spicy, not one bit. ..sadly disappointed and will not be returning.

Called in a pick-up order recently. Pretty quick, only about ten minutes. Everything was included: soy sauce, chopsticks, dipping cup, etc. Rolls were well crafted, but seemed to be lacking something...presentation, flavor, something was off. Tried the Philly Roll and Spicy Crab. Philly was smaller than most, cream cheese stood out well. Spicy crab had a little heat but good size. I'll give it another shot if I make it back out there.

I went here because I was in the area and wanted a quick sushi fix. For something called sushi express, there was nothing express about it. It took about 10-15 minutes for me to order my tiger roll and at least 45 minutes until it was ready. The sushi definitely wasn't wrapped tight enough as each piece kept falling apart, the rice tasted like the rice on the sushi rolls you buy from jewel, and the quality of the ingredients didn't taste fresh. As far as pricing, it's pretty cheap and you can get different kinds of combos for less than $11.

  • Elizabeth T.

Service - Super friendly, super quick (we waited about 10 mins for our sushi) 5 out of 5 Food quality - So so. Sushi not so fresh. 2 out 5 Prices - Super cheap 5 out of 5 Cleanliness - 5 out of 5 Would probably not go back unless people I go with for lunch insist on coming here.

  • Cristie F.

Now boarding...Sushi Express. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the wait. Don't let the name of the restaurant deceive you. Sushi, yes. Express, not so much. The service is fairly speedy, but it's not a grab and go. Most of the items they will make for you on the spot, so there is a small amount of wait time. Bonus points for super friendly service. They have a variety of veggie rolls. Options of cucumber, veggie, sweet potato, avocado, and shitake mushroom make me quite the happy girl. If I'm not in a sushi mood I'll order the beef rice (soy-garlic ribeye, onion, and carrot on a bed of rice) or chicken teriyaki. When I'm sick, you can find me hovered in the corner of the restaurant, or slumped over on the couch slurpping down a bowl of udon soup. As for prices - pretty darn cheap. You can stuff yourself stupid on sushi and rice dishes for $10 - $15, max. Sushi Express is not the most impressive place for sushi if that's what you're looking for. If you're in a rush, not looking to spend 30 bucks on lunch, and have a taste for sushi, then this is the place for you.

  • Andy H.

Good sushi but not express. Placed an order for take out, 3 rolls and a soup. The order took 90 minutes to be prepared and the place was dead. If you're ordering from here plan on doing your grocery shopping next door at the Jewel Osco while you wait. I did and ran errands around town which made the wait a little more tolerable, but I was hungry when I placed the order. I will order from here again, but I know I have to order 2 hrs prior to being hungry.

  • Kymberly J.

It's not the best sushi I've ever had but it is certainly not the worst. I had an $8.00 lunch special today which included soup and 12 rolls! I was stuffed. The lady behind the counter is a little weird. She wont let the low-sodium soy sauce into the hands of the customer but the regular soy sauce is OK to roam the restuarant freely. If you want the low sodium kind, you have to ask for it at the counter and she will fill up the little plastic cup that comes on your tray.

  • Doe L.

Pro: * cute place * very friendly service * fast food sushi (no waiters needed = no required tip) * comfy leather couch to sit on while waiting for order Now for the cons. I don't like people judging something without a sound reasoning.. so here's my rambling~ THE RICE: is really moist/mushy. The rice is just as important as the fish! I'm not even that picky on my rice but this one was enough for me to bump the rating down. Because the rice is so moist/mushy, it doesn't absorb any soy sauce when I dip it... To counteract that, I started dipping it on both sides which is SO bad since 1.) i only like to dip a tiny corner of my piece in sauce and 2.) I forgot to ask for low sodium soy sauce... It has no flavor either.. It's like they made sticky rice and threw a little bit of vinegar in (i'm assuming so bc i don't even taste that). THE NIGIRI: pieces were small (about $4 for 2 pieces) so I might not get those again. Imagine each piece about the size of 2 quarters. It's a quick fix and it does it's job. TIP: Lunch Combos are definitely the way to go if you want to give this place a try. I might try the Sashimi Rice Bowl next time though. It sounds like a Chirashi.. for $9, that's pretty good.

I just had their lunch special-- sweet potato and avocado sushi-- and it was light, refreshing, and delicious. Beautifully arrange on the tray, too! Wish I could come more often!

I just came back from having lunch here and to tell you the truth, I'm not impressed. First off, I waited 10 minutes just to put in my order. Then I waited over 30 minutes for my dish. They need at least 2-3 more sushi chefs behind the counter! When I finally got it the rice was pretty bland and the fish portions on the nigiri were sliced super thin. On top of that the tuna roll I received was really sloppy. It was coming apart. Yes, I got 8 pieces of nigiri and a small 6 piece tuna roll for $12. I expected to be stuffed with that amount of food but the proteins were so skimpy I felt like I ate a bowl of rice. Small consolation for waiting 40 minutes for lunch when I have a 60 minute lunch hour. I won't be back.

My coworkers and I go here every friday. The staff is friendly and awesome. I'm not sure where these negative reviews about the wait time are coming from. We call in our orders at 11:45 and they're ready for us when we get there at noon. I'm not a sushi fanatic but I look forward to my tiger roll and edamame every week.

When I first heard that we were getting another Sushi Restaurant in Park Ridge I was hoping it would be quick and affordable. Which it is; and it's delicious. Very fresh. Good servings and it's not expensive. Most of the regular rolls are $5 and the premium rolls ( dragon & spider rolls) are $10. So I can go and spend $10-20 and be full. There's something about warm rice and fresh servings that make this place a hit. Everything is made to order. The restaurant is very clean and so are the washrooms. Parking can be a pain but there is plenty of parking across the street in the library parking lot. Go in and try their crunch California roll and there unagi roll. They're two of my favorites. Their Ginger dressing is delicious too. So go in and get some affordable sushi!!

Stopped in for dinner. Was not impressed at all for the money. It all tastes the same, tasted cheap and the atmosphere is like a fast food restaurant but the prices are up there. About $25 a person. Ive had rolls at jewel that tasted way better. Park Ridge is definitely NOT known for sushi. I'll skip this place and Maki sushi and head to Midori on Bryn Mayr or Sankyu in Mt Prospect. It's safe to say I'll never eat Sushi in Park Ridge again

I work nearby and go here at least every other week. I've tried finding other sushi places that I liked better but I always end up comparing them to sushi express and never go back. Their prices are awesome and the staff is super friendly. It's the kind of place u walk up to e counter and place your order and then they call you when it's ready. So it's super casual, but that's what makes it even more affordable. Cuz lets be honest, sushi can be wayyyyy overpriced.

I work in the neighborhood and frequent Express for lunch. I've never had bad or slow service. I always get a lunch special and sometimes will add a small portioned roll or dessert. Everything is fresh and tasty. I was really happy to see a Tuna Lovers lunch special. The staff is super friendly and I never feel like it's forced. I absolutely love how affordable Express is! Yummy sushi lunch for under $15? Domo arigato!

I broke my first cardinal rule when I saw this new restaurant in the middle of Uptown Park Ridge. Rule #1 states: "Never visit a restaurant during it's first month of opening." Sushi Express was an exception to this rule and nice change of pace for my palate. Although I had to wait for my specialty roll, which was to be expected (the Godzilla Roll: Shrimp Tempura, Cream Cheese, Crab, Avocado, and Chunch topped with two specialty sauces) it was pretty fast considering all of the Sushi is made to order. It was very tasty even after it had been refrigerated for a couple of hours until my break. I bet it would have been outstanding had I eaten it right away. They offer Sushi Combos (various mixed Nigri Sushi and Maki Rolls) and special dishes such as Sashimi Bowls, Beef Rice Bowls and Udon (Japanese thick noodle soup). They also have ready made Japanese Salads and lunch salads in the display case. Even though my visit was was after the lunch rush (1:30 pm), they were still "crazy busy" but fast and well organized. It turns out the owners of this restaurant own another sushi restaurant in Arlington Heights that is equipped with an impressive sake and a martini list. This information was supplied by a newspaper article proudly framed on the wall for all to read. I guess I'll have to try that restaurant too.

Tried Sushi Express yesterday for lunch and was not impressed. When eating at a sushi place that has "express" in the name you have to go in with a certain understanding that it's not going to be fresh mind-blowing sushi. And I can verify that my experience was neither of those things. The short of it is that the sushi is not fresh at all, and is overpriced for the quality and quantity that you're getting. I would rank this sushi as slightly above Dominick's / Jewel sushi from the grocery store. I tried: - Rainbow Roll - California Roll - especially annoyed at the type of imitation crab used, as the pieces were long and thin like coming out a spaghetti press. - Philadelphia Roll - Unagi Roll For the prices I would expect a little higher standard. I've had much better value sushi from neighborhood japanese places (my favorite being Midori on Bryn Mawr) for a similar price. I would recommend this place only if you were in the neighborhood and absolutely need a quick fix of mediocre sushi at a cheaper price than higher grade sushi. Otherwise it's not worth going.

I eat here all the time, and it is far more reasonably priced than Maki around the corner. The sushi is very fresh, and the people behind the counter are always very pleasant. I've never experienced a 'fishy' smell from this place. I rarely order the specialty rolls since they are the most expensive and I am on a budget, but I really appreciate the tuna, salmon, eel and avocado rolls. The nigiri sushi is equally delicious, but a bit expensive comparatively. While this is not the best sushi I've ever had in the Chicagoland area (Renga tei in Chicago and Mitsuwa in Arlington Heights), it has always been fresh and delicious. Sometimes the owners will give us samples of new foods that they are considering adding to the menu--and I've been hooked on the fried sweet potato and banana(drizzled in chocolate) ever since! Honestly, though--it does drive me nuts that they aren't open Sundays and close by 8 every night.

My coworkers and I have been coming to Sushi Express every single Friday since late October of last year. They have never failed to produce delicious sushi, which is why we keep coming back every single Friday without fail. The restaurant is always clean, and Yung the owner is such a sweet woman, she always thanks us for coming in, but I always thank her for making awesome sushi! I get the Godzilla Roll and it is to die for. I don't get adventurous typically and have been loyal to the Godzilla roll, but today I tried the Twin Shrimp roll and that too, was amazing. I can honestly say, this sushi is better quality and better priced than some of the sushi spots I know of in the city. It's a great place to get together with coworkers for a quick and filling lunch.

My husband and I were driving around park ridge and came across this place. The prices are reasonable and prettty good maki. I also had the gyoza which was pretty good. I'm glad we found this place and I recommend it for a quick lunch.

I knew going in that a place called Sushi Express was not going to be the fanciest place in the world. With that in mind, I did enjoy myself at Sushi Express. My fiancee, our friend, and I went there yesterday (a Saturday evening) for dinner, and we ordered a nice selection of their menu. I had the special Phoenix roll which was very good. Our only problem was that there wasn't much "express" about it. We did wait a while to get our rolls since it seemed like they had some call in orders that had accumulated. All in all though, the taste and price made up for the wait.

I work near Sushi Express and decided to finally try the place. Others in my office had been there before and did not have good things to say about the quality of the sushi but I thought I would see for myself. A co-worker and I walked in and were immediately turned off by the intense fish smell. Yes, this is a sushi joint...but it is overwhelming. We ordered and watched our food being prepared. Everything was fine until I noticed the gentleman that was working the register was also loading our sushi rolls onto our trays. He was not wearing any gloves, and his hands were going right from digging $$ out of the register to putting ginger and rolls on out trays...not good. We both sat down to ate and noticed that nothing was cold and again, the fish smell from our food was just too strong. We both tried it then threw it away. Wasted time and money. The proprietor seems very nice and I hate to give a bad review but I am not alone (at least in my office) in saying that it is s risky proposition eating at Sushi Express.

I've been going to Sushi Express for about a year now, and have never been dissapointed. It is a no-frill sushi joint, quick, appropriately priced, and polite staff. If you're looking for ambiance and fancy sushi, this is not the place, just come for some good simple fish. Remember, if it has "express" in the title, don't expect to be wowed by it. It's a good place to fulfill your sushi cravings, meet up with a friend for a quick bite, or stop by for lunch/carry out for dinner. I would recommend it!

  • Michael R.

Don't for a minute let the word "Express" in the name of this restaurant deter you from giving it a try. I LOVE this place. It's not fancy and they have no liquor license so no hot hot sake with your meal -- however, it's a great place to go for lunch -- they also do catering. I just had them cater a party I had in my home and it was huge hit, everyone wanted to know where I got it. Everything is fresh and *delicious* and reasonably priced. Seems every time I go for sushi I end up spending $80 a person, this is far from that. There's really no cool ambiance if you want to know the truth, but if you're a sushi lover and don't feel like breaking the bank, go here. There's another sushi restaurant in the area, the name escapes me -- it's a few doors down from Venus (LOVE that place too!) on Northwest Hghy and they charge double the prices and their sushi isn't nearly as good as it is at Sushi Express. Enjoy.

  • M M.

Sushi Express is great, quick, and authentic Sushi place. Regular sushi, without all the fancy Americanized sauces. Japanese sushi isn't all those fancy sauces. I've been to Tokyo and (obviously) ate a lot of authentic sushi. Sushi Express is fresh and good sushi at a reasonable price and the staff is very nice. Try the party tray B for a good variety. We're on our way there now! :) Oh and they're open until 8pm not 7pm. Give them a try, you'll like it.

We love this new place in Park Ridge. I have gotten carryouts a few times. The sushi is very fresh and very reasonable in price. We ate lunch at the restaurant yesterday and had their daily special. It was a beef tenderloin/onions/carrots/ginger over rice - served with very good miso soup and a drink all for only $8. I highly recommend you try this place.
